engine light

hi, im a new driver and with my new 91 civic cx
i haf 5 speed manual which im still in the process of getting to know it .
recently my "yellow" engine light came on
i was wondering wut did that mean excatly?
is it bad ? need to replace sumthing?

At first..i didnt see the blinking light even when i looked for it...I wasn tpulling the carpet away far enough..
